Paragliding in Kreischberg – tandem flying over the Murtal
Want to view Kreischberg from a completely different perspective? With a tandem flight, you soar over the Murtal valley together with an experienced pilot and look out over St. Georgen, the Mur river, and the surrounding mountains. You do not need any flying experience for such a flight: a short instruction and a few steps at the take-off are enough to take off together.
Flugschule Aufwind organizes tandem flights in the Murau-Murtal region, including direct flights near Kreischberg. Flights are possible daily when wind and weather are safe enough. This makes paragliding a particularly special activity for a clear summer day when you want to experience something you don't do every vacation.
Tandem flight Kreischberg — take-off from the Kramerkogel
Start opposite the Kreischberg
The local tandem flight starts from the Kramerkogel, on the opposite side of the Kreischberg ski area. The meeting point is in St. Georgen ob Murau. Together with the pilot, you then proceed to the take-off site.
During the flight, you look out over the landscape around Kreischberg from the air. The landing takes place back in St. Georgen ob Murau, so the start and finish are close to the apartment.

How does a tandem flight work?
You fly together with a pilot.
In tandem paragliding, you sit in your own harness directly in front of the pilot. The pilot controls the paraglider and is responsible for takeoff, flight, and landing. Therefore, you do not need to know any flying technique yourself.
The start
Before takeoff, the pilot briefly explains what you need to do. Usually, you walk a few steps together down a gently sloping grassy hill until the paraglider has sufficient lift. After that, the ground gives way beneath you on its own.
During the flight
A tandem flight is fundamentally calm and panoramic. Exactly how long you stay in the air depends on factors such as wind and thermals. The pilot determines what is safe and responsible based on the conditions.
Alternative — panoramic flight from the Grebenzen
More altitude and a longer flight
Those seeking a longer flying experience can also opt for a tandem flight from the Grebenzen in the same Murau region. This flight starts higher up in the Nature Park and combines a short walk to the launch site with a panoramic flight.
For the Grebenzen, Flugschule Aufwind states a total duration of approximately two hours, about ten minutes of flight time, and an altitude difference of approximately 800 meters for 2026. The published price is €175 per person.
A nice second choice
The Grebenzen is particularly interesting if you want to stay in the air a bit longer or if the flying conditions there are more favorable than at Kreischberg. The flight school also offers several other launch sites in Murau-Murtal, so the exact location can sometimes be chosen based on the weather.
Practical tips for paragliding
Reservations and weather dependency
Preferably book a tandem flight in advance, but keep in mind that paragliding is entirely dependent on suitable flying conditions. Even in sunny weather, wind can make a flight impossible. The pilot ultimately decides whether it is safe to fly.
Shoes and clothing
For the Kreischberg flight, the flight school requests hiking boots. Additionally, wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. It can be noticeably cooler in the air than down in the valley, so an extra layer is advisable, even on a warm summer day.
Glasses, phone and loose items
Ask in advance what you can safely bring along. Loose items must be properly secured during takeoff and flight. If you would like footage of the flight, a video option is available at Aufwind for an additional fee.
Murau GästeCard
According to the official Murau region tourist information, holders of a valid Murau GästeCard 10% receive a discount on tandem flights in the Murau region. Please check when booking whether this discount applies to your chosen flight and stay period.
No experience needed
A tandem flight is specifically intended for people without their own pilot's license. You always fly with an experienced tandem pilot. If you have questions regarding age, weight, physical limitations, or other personal circumstances, please discuss them directly with the flight school in advance.
